Cultivators for Tractors from 16 to 50 hp: Spring Tine and Duckfoot

A cultivator works the soil at the surface: after ploughing it breaks down the clods, aerates the ground and pulls out weeds, getting the seedbed ready. A spring tine cultivator has flexible tines that vibrate and follow the ground, ideal even where there are stones and roots; a duckfoot cultivator has wide shares that cut the weeds just below the surface. Every listing gives the working width, recommended horsepower, linkage category and lower link spacing.

Spring tine or duckfoot

Spring tines vibrate and shatter the clods, giving way on obstacles without breaking. Duckfoot shares cut horizontally and are the most effective against weeds.

When to use it

After ploughing or subsoiling, to work the soil down before sowing or planting out, and during the season to keep the ground free of weeds.

Width and power

A working width close to the tractor's track width saves going back over the wheel marks; the wider it is, the more power you need.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between spring tine and duckfoot?
A spring tine cultivator breaks up and aerates the soil; a duckfoot cultivator cuts the weeds below the surface.

Can it replace the plough?
On ground that's already been worked, yes; on grassland or compacted ground you need the plough or the subsoiler first.

Will it suit my 20 hp tractor?
Yes, if 20 hp falls within the horsepower range on the listing and the linkage is the right category.

How do I set the depth?
With the linkage and the top link; two steel depth wheels are available as an option.
