Which diameter to choose
Go by the size of the post or root ball going in: the hole should be a few centimetres (an inch or two) wider.
How it works
The auger turns with the PTO and is lowered with the linkage: the depth depends on the length of the auger and the lift height of the linkage. On the version with a hydraulic ram, the ram pushes the auger into the ground, which helps on hard ground. On hard or stony ground, go down slowly and lift the auger now and then to clear the soil.
Safety
The PTO shaft must have its guards fitted, and nobody should stand near the turning auger.
Frequently asked questions
Which auger diameter should I choose?
A few centimetres (an inch or two) more than the post or root ball going in.
Can the augers be changed?
Yes, the augers are interchangeable and come in several diameters up to 30 cm (12 in), also sold separately.
How deep does it dig?
It's on the listing: it depends on the length of the auger and the lift height of the tractor's linkage.
Does it need a PTO?
Yes, the post hole borer is driven by the tractor's PTO; the PTO shaft is included.
Is there a post hole borer with hydraulic down pressure?
Yes: one version has a hydraulic ram that pushes the auger into the ground, connected to the tractor's hydraulics.
Will it also work on a mini digger?
No: for mini diggers there are dedicated hydraulic augers, among our mini digger attachments.
